Where it applies

At Forum events, in our online spaces (including WhatsApp and Discord once they open), in our repositories and in any conversation that happens because of the Forum.

What we expect

  • Respect people whose discipline, experience or opinion differs from yours. That difference is the point of the Forum.
  • Explain rather than gatekeep. Nobody should need to be an engineer to ask a question.
  • Share what you know honestly, including what did not work.
  • Credit other people's work and ideas.
  • Respect people's time and attention.

What is not acceptable

  • Harassment, intimidation or discrimination of any kind, including on the basis of gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, appearance, age, ethnicity, nationality, religion or language.
  • Unwanted sexual attention, and sexualised language or images.
  • Personal attacks, insults or deliberate disruption.
  • Sharing someone's private information, messages or images without their permission.
  • Recording a session, or putting what people say into an AI tool, without the consent of those involved.

Commercial conduct

  • No unsolicited selling, recruiting messages or cold outreach to people you met through the Forum.
  • No collecting or exporting members' contact details.
  • Say when a talk or post is sponsored or promotes your own product.

Privacy in our spaces

In a WhatsApp community, other participants may be able to see your phone number. Join only if you are comfortable with that; email updates are always available instead.

Reporting a problem

If something breaks this code, or makes you or someone else feel unsafe, tell us through the contact form (choose "Something else") or speak to an organiser at the event. You do not have to give your name. We treat reports confidentially and respond as quickly as we can.

What happens next

Depending on what happened, we may talk to the people involved, issue a warning, remove messages, or ask someone to leave an event or space, for a while or for good. We never share who made a report without their permission.

Changes

We will improve this code as the community grows and record each change on this page.
