Why a council

The Forum was started by one person. That is fine for a beginning, but a forum that wants the trust of companies, universities and public institutions needs judgement from more than one discipline, and people other than the founder who can say no.

The council is how we plan to provide that: a small group from different professions who advise on direction, review published work and hold the Forum to its principles.

What the council will do

  • Advise on the programme of events, education and research.
  • Review research methods and publications before they appear under the Forum's name.
  • Uphold the Forum's independence, editorial and conduct principles.
  • Oversee how conflicts of interest are declared and handled.
  • Help set up working groups and keep their scope clear.

What it will not do

  • Sell or endorse the Forum's paid training or consulting.
  • Speak for the Forum through individual members. Their views remain their own.
  • Represent Barcelona's AI sector or any public institution.

Proposed seats

Seven seats, one for each perspective the Forum brings together:

  • Business and operations
  • Marketing and creative industries
  • Engineering and product
  • Education and people development
  • Research and academia
  • Law, governance and public policy
  • Civil society or the public sector

At least four of the seven seats will go to people who do not work mainly as engineers. We will aim for a council that reflects Barcelona's professional community in gender, background and language.

How members are appointed

  1. Anyone can express interest or nominate someone, using the form on this page.
  2. We talk with each candidate about the role, the time it needs and any conflicts of interest.
  3. Appointments are confirmed in writing, with the scope of the role and a declaration of interests.
  4. Members are named on this page with their consent, together with their declared interests.

Terms and conduct

  • Terms last two years and can be renewed once.
  • Members declare relevant commercial interests and step back from decisions that involve their employer or clients.
  • Any payment, sponsorship or commercial relationship involving a council member will be disclosed on this page.
  • Members follow the Forum's code of conduct.

Working groups

Once the community is active, members will be able to form working groups on specific themes. Possible first themes:

  • AI in marketing and creative work
  • AI literacy in the workplace
  • Agents and integrations in practice
  • AI governance for small and medium-sized companies
  • Research and evidence

Each working group will publish its scope and members. None exist yet.

Who speaks for the Forum today

Until the council is in place, the founder speaks for the Forum. Official positions are published on this website; anything else is personal opinion.

Seats, terms and rules on this page are a proposal and may change before the first appointments.

Express interest or nominate someone

Tell us who you are, or who you are nominating, and which perspective they would bring. Nominations are confidential.
